Many of Scott's compositions could best be described as “organic abstract” while others lean heavily towards photo realism. They are influenced by his Alaskan roots and current Southwest home. He loves working with oil pastels. Scott says "oil pastels are an extremely versatile and dynamic medium that allows a wide range of expressions that standard oil and acrylic paint could only wish for ".
Tess Mosko Scherer combines her interest and study of the human psyche, specifically the light and shadow theories of Carl Jung, with her interest in book structures. Mosko Scherer excavates human emotions and archetypal energies that prevail in our human nature. She explores the imbalances between the complex machinations of our inner world and the outer world in which we are seen.
There is an intimate quality to her work which is revealed when experienced up close. Subtle detail, texture, and often words, are found in the compositions of simplified forms and color. She works with water color, pastels, colored pencils and graphite on paper, which is often incised and torn. The torn pieces are sewn together with waxed Irish linen thread to convey complex and universal themes.
“The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things but their inward beauty.”
-- Aristotle
Similarly, my approach to art is to first capture that inner significance whether it is a person, animal or even an object, as each has a special value that I want to represent in my work.
Victoria Klotz was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. A place of characteristic rolling hills which captivated Victoria’s heart and ignited a love for nature early in her childhood. In 2019 she received her BFA at Indiana University and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. She is captivated by the process of painting and is driven to be a master colorist by creating challenging works of Plein Air and still life on a regular basis. She is convinced that painting studies from life can accurately accomplish thoughtful color matching in her works. Her paintings are therapeutic and intended to reach the community through familiar Arizona destinations. Klotz states, “ In my desert landscapes, I hope to give a bright light from the day to day and remind one to explore.” It is important for Klotz to expose the beauty of the desert colors and how it affects the quality of life for Arizona residents and visitors.
Finding the acrylic painting medium (and mixed media/collage!) in 2016 after over 25 years of watercolor painting has expanded me as an artist exponentially! Now creating using color and form as directed by vibration and frequency, the possibilities are unlimited! Join us to share the love and the good vibes in "Paint By Heart" workshops where we all rediscover our true magic and our connection to Creative Source Energy.
After painting exclusively in Soft Pastels for 25 years, I felt a strong pull to change in an abstract direction. Exploring Cold Wax & Oil, I painted a series of Arizona monsoon haboobs. Another series afterward, "Pathways of Light", was inspired by the instillations of artist James Turrell.
My latest series "Piercing Illusions", are folded paper airplane subjects, painted in Acrylic. They are an embellishment of the clean edges and geometric color patterns of the folds of paper. Each painting is as unique as the person who created it. My intention is to show a new way of viewing a simple subject that evokes playfulness and for some, memories of childhood fun.
